    No. There is a very high risk of terrorist attack throughout the country. In 2010 and again in 2011, yemen-based terrorist groups declared their intention to target Western interests and Western foreigners and to inflict indiscriminate civilian casualties. And they have carried out those threats on a number of occasions, eg in July 2011 a UK citizen was killed in a car bombing.
    Add to that a very high degree of political instability resulting in violent and deadly clashes between government forces and a multitude of opposition groups.
    Most western governments advice their citizens to avoid all travel to all parts of Yemen.
    It's a really dangerous place for westerners. If you're not western and could more easily fit in with the fabric of the society, it's still a dangerous place because of the indiscriminate nature of the terrorist attacks.
    I don't say this often, but ... guaranteed safe independent tourist travel to Yemen is all but impossible at the present time. over 7 years ago

    Dear Phil & Nadine;

    I think now Yemen is safe, after the revolution is over, and the anarchy has ended. I can confirm that Yemen now returned to the state where more foreigners (westerners) returned to their tourism or professional career in Yemen. over 7 years ago

    Yemen never been safe place in the eyes of Western Media, Neither the USA or even UK in our Media too, This year many people has been killed by gunfire in tourists attacks in the USA more any place and no one said anything about it. Yemen is not the ideal place for those who have concerns about safety, Yemen is the destination for the real adventurer who fears nothing. almost 7 years ago
