My partner and I are planning a 3 week trip to Vietnam in November, and would like to visit Vang Vien for a few days however flights between the two countries seem very expensive.(around $700) Does anyone know of a better deal or alternative ways of travel?

It's a long distNce trip so think carefully. There is plenty to do in nam in 3 short weeks. But the easiest way is to bus it from Hanoi to luang prabang (gorgeous but insanely long overnight mountain ride). Then bus it down to vang vieng (6-8 hrs). You'll need a multiple entry visa to Vietnam too. U can also go through Cambodia but it's longer. almost 9 years ago

A long bus ride will work but what Mika said is true. You will need a multiple entry Visa for Vietnam and the bus rides in Laos take forever! I would skip the tubing madness and instead explore more of Vietnam. It is such a gorgeous country with so much to offer. 3 weeks is barely enough to cover it all! Plus the food in Vietnam is a million times better than that in Laos.

My top suggestion for Vietnam: Motor bike over the Hai Van Pass from Hue to Hoi An. Gorgeous drive and a real Vietnamese experience!

Alexandra said it well. Too much time and effort for the couple of days you'd spend there. Three weeks goes by fast when your having fun. over 8 years ago
