I have planned to visit Sapa at this weekend, get started from Hanoi in on Friday afternoon. Which is best good means of transportation, train or bus? Any suggestion to have safe trip in Sapa is appreciated.
Thank you in advance.
I have been in Sapa few times and my best experience is travel from Hanoi to Sapa by train. Take the overnight train at around 9 or 10 PM you will arrive Sapa in the next early morning. Soft bed train is comfortable enough to take a sleep so you can stand to discover most excited activity in Sapa - trekking :) The journey is about 8 - 10 hours.
Travel by bus is less shorter than train, around 6 hours. However much more stress you may get because of the drivers often squeeze the horn on the way that prevent you sleep. 3 months ago
By the way, here is one option that you can read for more information about train http://www.baolau.com/blog/trains-hanoi-sapa-laocai/

I'd recommend the overnight sleeper train - saves you purchasing an extra night's accommodation. Bed's were soft and they have decent toilets and amenities on board. Tall people may find the beds a little short, but I think its much safer than travelling by the Vietnamese roads.
The train stops at Lao Cai from where you'll need to take a 1.5hr bus ride to Sapa.
We went there and back with Chapa Express - https://www.tripadvisor.com.au/Attraction_Review-g293924-d8861405-Reviews-Chapa_Express_Train-Hanoi.html

hi, if you go by night train:
1. More Expensive than night bus
2. You need to go to train station in hanoi and from train station to sapa (38 km)
3. You cannot sleep cause the train stops at 12 stations
If you go by night bus you can sleep better, cheaper
