We are planning on travelling to Sapa from Hanoi in January 2013 and can only find train tickets online from about $80 but I've heard you can get tickets from a travel agent in Hanoi for around $10? Can anyone confirm this rumour? Or is it the same price and therefore better to book online so the train isn't full when we want to go? Thanks

You can book now. That is quite reasonable price.
It is impossible to book a ticket to Sapa with only $10, even you buy directly at the ticket counter in Hanoi train station.

Jan is often full, especially if you travel on the weekend. almost 8 years ago

We offer return tickets for $70-$80 dollars depending on the train company they choose... www.trek.sapaochau.org
You can get cheaper tickets directly at the station in Hanoi, but there is no guarantee there will be availability. It is a very busy time of year now and will be busy all of January. Happy New Year! almost 8 years ago
