We will be in Ha Long Vietnam at Christmas and would like to know if it is still a suitable time of year to kayak around the islands?
We have read it could be quite cold! Has anyone done it? and if so, any advise on the best area's to stay would also be appreciated. Thanks.
Yes, Xmas is very cold in the North, travel to the South will be warmer

I was in Ha Long Bay the week before Christmas and the weather was quite moderate. I've got photos of me hiking around Cat Ba in short sleeve shirt and sunnies, so it can't have been that cold! Although I didn't swim in Ha Long waters. IN the Hanoi shops, I laughed when I saw all the beanies and scarves for sale as I couldn't imagine Hanoi ever getting 'properly cold'.
However, I took a trip up to Sapa, high up in the mountains , and it was freezing - enough for thermals and fleeces. over 7 years ago
Depends on your definition of cold, and therefore where are you from? I didn't find it cold, but a bit refreshing after the heat of Cambodia. You'll need a sweater at night. You won't want to swim. But kayaking should be fine.
Watch out for scams in northern Vietnam though. Rampant. over 7 years ago
