I will travel from Los Roques and spend one day in Caracas. Where to have lunch or dinner and is it safe to move within?
It depends on the area in which you will be staying; try "Veranda" in Las Mercedes if you're in the mood for a nice dinner; it is on a strip of clubs so you can go out after. If you want something cheaper, I would recommend "La Casa del Llano" in the same area for authentic Venezuelan arepas. I wouldn't call the city safe, but it can be as long as you don't mess around almost 6 years ago
Duarte, Caracas can be a very dangerous place, and you'll need all your 'street smarts' and travel experience to keep out of trouble. I'm not saying it's impossible, but you will need to be on your guard. It begins at the airport where fake 'officials' may approach you. The taxi drivers are not ashamed of overcharging or even robbing 'soft targets', theft from hotel rooms and hostels is pretty common, and express kidnappings are a regular occurrence (and someone who looks like a tourist is a prime target). There's a pretty scary list of stuff that could happen on the worldnomads.com safety page.I'm not saying all of this or any of this will happen to you, but at least you're now warned.
The article names a few 'safer' areas you might want to stick to. almost 6 years ago
