If you like museums, the Muhammad Ali Museum is a must. Also, the Louisville Slugger museum (where they make the baseball bats) is downtown and a fun place to go if you like baseball or have kids with you. There are a number of art galleries and unique restaurants in the Nulu area of downtown on East Market Street. If you enjoy sports you can try and grab tickets to a University of Louisville basketball game. The arena alone is worth the experience as it is one of the nicest in the world. There are also many restaurants and bars next to the arena on 2nd and Main streets. As for nightlife, 4th Street Live is an area in downtown with many bars and clubs. There are always a lot of people at 4th street. If you want more of a local scene, the Highlands is where most locals go out. Most of the bars and restaurants in the Highlands are off of Bardstown Road and it's only about a 5-10 minute cab ride from downtown. There are also a bunch of boutique shops in the Highlands. Frankfort Avenue is another great area just outside of downtown that has a lot of unique restaurants, bars, and shops both upscale and affordable. If you have a car, you can drive about 45 minutes south to Bardstown, KY where you can tour many of the bourbon distilleries, as bourbon is only made in Kentucky. It all depends on what you like to do. over 6 years ago

I had just a few hours there and had read about the "famous" Hot Brown sandwich that was invented at the Brown Hotel (downtown). It was good, as was the Mint Julep, but the best part was the gorgeous lobby of the grand old hotel. If you like history and/or architecture, it's worth a stop. I also toured some bourbon distilleries nearby (Jim Beam, etc.); that was fun and "educational." about 6 years ago
