Nevada in december

almost 7 years ago about Nevada, United States

We plan to take a trip from las Vegas, via lake Tahoe , San Francisco and back via Los Angeles.
All this, during the last week of December and the first week of January.
Is there any issues with driving in this area? I mean, during the winter...
Any special considerations for such a trip?
We will be driving with four kids.

Thanks!

lake Tahoe is high in the mountains, so there is a good if not high chance of snow. You should check with the highway departments of CA & NV for requirements for road chains, etc, and road conditions. Google them. almost 7 years ago

The road from lake Tahoe and Mammoth Mountain to las vegas can be closed with snow that time of the year. I suggest a good 4 x 4 with snow chains. almost 7 years ago

Yes! It's gorgeous. Some roads and passes are closed such 4, 120, etc.contact the highway website for latest conditions. 50 and 80 are the main roads over to and through Tahoe to 395 in the eastern Sierras. You may need chains or four wheel drive, but you won't regret it. almost 7 years ago
