    You don't havetobworry about snow until you are 2-3 hours north of san Francisco. take 101 north to san Francisco. Then connect to 80 west which will take you to 505 north connecting to 5 north. You WILL hit snow along 5 when going thru Oregon. But that is the best way to go. However you can take the coastal routes and then cut back in towards Portland. But you'll still hit snow and those roads aren't interstates like 5 is almost 9 years ago

    I would take 101 if you have time... that way you hit the golden gate and then right into Santa Barbara... if you take the 5 you might have to go into north LA and back up and the grape vine could be a mess so make sure you get on 101 north of SB ;] over 8 years ago
