We were out there right when the Tsunami hit, on Big Island about a 2 foot Tsunami hit, no real major damage, except down in Kailua-Kona area of which about 8 houses on the beach were damaged with one being ripped off of it's foundation and pulled out to sea. The Waikoloa Beach Resort's "ancient fish pond wall" got completely blown out and a channel was opened up to the sea. Other than that most beaches were not affected.
If you are asking "could a Tsunami hit the Big Island?" The answer is yes but getting up country would take no time at all, plus the US Pacific Rim buoy system is so good, most likely plenty of warnings would by provided, so no fear there. over 7 years ago
