Driving from San Fran to Seattle with 1 day in Portland. Any recommendations avoiding typical tourist attractions and areas?
One day in Portland
There's so much to do in Portland. I have a great budget travel column on Examiner that can help you. Check out Voodoo Doughnuts: http://www.examiner.com/budget-travel-in-portland/voodoo-doughnut-a-tourist-destination-for-the-sugar-deficient and maybe some local filming locations: http://www.examiner.com/budget-travel-in-portland/walk-the-steps-of-stars-with-portland-filming-locations over 8 years agoAnswered by Shereen via WorldNomads.com
Voodoo is a tourist attraction and not the best donuts in town but they are unique. Depending on the day, catching a farmers' market is interesting. if you like beer there are innumerable good breweries in town. Also the dining scene is very alive and eclectic with the food cart scene being a regular draw for locals as well as visitors. Coffee is amazing here especially if you seek out the micro roasters. If you visit neighborhoods such as MIssissippi, Hawthorne and Alberta, you'll encounter all of the above and interesting shopping to boot. While not avoiding all tourist attractions you'd definitely be more in the flow of locals. over 8 years ago
