    I would do the downtown area - the historic Gaslamp District, the waterfront (with various maritime museums), Petco Park (not sure when, but they offer interesting tours), and Seaport Village. You can also take the ferry from the waterfront over to Coronado, rent a bike at Ferry Landing and see the beautiful historic Hotel Del.

    Coronado island is a wonderful day in san Diego. Beautiful place, great restaurants, nice walk at beach. La Jolla is another option again beach area with good restaurants. And one last option is Balboa park beautiful gardens, mostly free of charge, great Prado restaurant, with view of park, museums etc. about 7 years ago
