I live near downtown San Diego...in Coronado. Here's my Yelp list for restaurants in the Gaslamp District (the city's historical and club scene district):

I definitely recommend going to Coronado...you can take the ferry from downtown, but you would have to rent a bike to get to the other side of the island (about 14 blks) to see the must-see Hotel del Coronado. Here's my Coronado Yelp list:

Old Town is another good stop...just a few minutes north of downtown. Have a margarita...but, definitely use Yelp to find the best Mexican restaurant. Many of them are just for tourists and serve terrible food!

Visit one of the beaches...based on your personality. Ocean Beach (bohemian hippy), Pacific/Mission Beach (the college/bar scene), Coronado (conservative/family), or La Jolla (upscale and stunningly beautiful...definitely my favorite).

That should be plenty for a few days! Feel free to message me with questions. I was a tour guide in the Gaslamp until a short time ago and have lived there since '85...
