    If you are in San Fran and have a couple of hours to spare..why not? I wouldn't have left there without seeing it. The ferry trip out into the Bay can be misty and drizzly (I was there in May) but the views of the San Fran skyline are fabulous even through the ubiquitous fog. Once there you are in the so called inescapable prison, so close to the world and yet a world away. I have visited both Alcatraz and Robben Island and would not have missed the experience of either of them. I'd say don't miss it. about 9 years ago

    IMO very much so, don't miss it. One thing though, you need to buy your ticket in advance especially for the weekend tours. about 9 years ago

    Concur. You should do it. It's touristy but an attraction like none other in the world. The audio tour is worth it too.
