Going to Waikiki and we'd love to find some good local restaurants there. We want to go where the locals go. Any suggestions?

Town restaurant in kaimuki has fantastic food, really popular so get a reservation if you want to go. Casual and not expensive. Must have a bowl of fries, hand cut pasta, all their bread is made in house...best food in Honolulu. We have great Japanese food too..izakaya gaku is great.. over 9 years ago

Don't go to Dukes that is where all the tourist go! Gotta go to Islanders on the north side of the military golf course in the Safeway parking lot!!! That is a true local spot! I get it every time I am on the island!!! over 9 years ago

I am a fan of fish tacos at Tiki's. If you are into Italian, check out Divino's. It's a little hole in the wall, but super delicious. over 9 years ago

I have just come back from Oahu - I tried some of the suggestions above and have a few recommendations:
- definitely go to Leonard's as the malasadas are to-die-for
- Town Restaurant is great, off the busy Waikiki strip, with fresh, local produce and a good wine selection
- South Shore Grill is a cheap and cheerful restaurant about a 10 minute walk from Waikiki; it's super good value - I had a delicious salmon fillet with salad for about $10
- Uncle Bo's (close to Leonard's) has a good atmosphere, okay food, and plenty of locals eat there so it's nice to get away from the busy tourist area
- Fatty's fast food Chinese is a favourite of my travel companion as it's super cheap and very fresh. It's not really my bag but it's incredibly popular
- Ramen Nakamura, down opposite Tiffany & Chanel, is also very good value with yummy gyozas
