Check if there's a neighborhood street festival or outdoor music gig, Chicago is alive in summer with them. If it's a nice day, head to the zoo, it's lovely. Rent a bike and cycle along the lake, or do an architectural walking tour of the city. over 7 years ago

Do the architecture tour, either by kayak or by boat. Take a picnic lunch to the lake and watch the sailboats. Wine, cheese and chocolate tasting at Eno on Michigan Ave. Shopping in Wicker Park. Have fun! :) over 7 years ago

Rent bikes near Diversey Harbor and wander south along the beaches and into the city. The bike trails are wonderful.

Go to the Bean (millennium park), but also look for the Crown Fountain. That is the one with two towers facing each other...faces of Chicago. If you are there on Monday evening in the summer, stay for the free concert. Chicago has lots of art in public places...well worth just wandering by bike, especially just north of the city.

Fireworks on Navy Pier on certain nights in the summer.

Try to find the Violet Hour speakeasy near Damon at the Blue Line for a drink. Try Orange for breakfast (there are several locations).

The architecture tour which starts at Navy Pier really is excellent even if you think that is not your idea of fun. Try to get the guide named Kevin...you will laugh the whole way! Go to a tiny blues bar...and I cannot remember the name of a cool one we found. It was within a few blocks of the downtown Hilton.

Chicago is a fun city...we travel a lot and never get tired of Chicago (but I also have to admit our daughter lives there, so we have good reason to go). over 7 years ago
