Vancouver is right across the Columbia from Portland and all of Portland is open to you if you have a car. the Columbia River Gorge is also good (google Multinomah Falls). in Vancouver try Fort Vancouver' an old Hudson Bay Co. Site run by National Parks Service. All sorts of hotels are available. good luck! over 9 years ago

Vancouver is a great city to wander around in, and, with their great new street food culture you can eat awesome food for relatively cheap.. I've written them up here: http://traveleater.wordpress.com/vancouver-street-food/
Also great in Vancouver is killer whale watching (from Granville Island, 15 min from downtown). You can't miss Stanley Park - beautiful for walking, running or biking. Take a walk on the sea wall around False Creek. Lots of great museums and galleries, especially for Aboriginal art.
Accommodation: choose something downtown, in the West End, Yaletown ir Davie Village, or in South Granville or Kitsalano for most convenience. M over 9 years ago -
Sorry to be intrusive, but some of the answers you got were for Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. My response was for Vancouver, Washington State ( not DC, not BC). The request came in under Clark County, as in Lewis & Clark). I just wanted to warn you.
