The best place to stay and/or have a nice meal in or near Gatlinburg is The Lodge at Buckberry Creek. I think it is on Campbell Lead Road. The rooms and suites are extremely nice, all with mountain views, and I am pretty sure all have fireplaces. The suites are incredible! We travel a lot, but this is where we go each year--a weekend or two--for a "stay-cation."

While there, be sure to hike or get a ride down to the pavilion by the creek. If it is cold, they'll have a huge fire built for you. Every season is equally gorgeous at Buckberry.

Dinner is prepared by an excellent chef and they will modify recipes if you have special food limitations. Every meal we have had there has been flawless.

Quite honestly, when we go we do not leave the property of the Lodge, except maybe to hike Charlie's Bunion or to Abrahm's Falls.

If you want to go in early summer, be sure to read about (and see) the synchronized fireflies at Elkmont. over 6 years ago

Head down the mountain to Townsend, it's quiet, nice handmade crafts, and a gorgeous river for tubing. Gatlinburg can be busy, touristy, and loud, not what you expect on a mountain vacay almost 6 years ago
