Think I waited till I got there. Did a day tour however there is also a ghost tour at night. www.viator.com is an excellent website to prebook tours on if you see the need. over 9 years ago

I would definitely book room ahead of time! for road trip with car I suggest motor inn's. they are cheaper and have free or cheap parking. major hotels are gonna charge $35-55 a day for parking. parking lots are gonna be $20-35 for overnight parking. sometimes you need to google map motor inn's not always listed on major sites like hotels.com i would say motor inn's would be $100-140, and major hotels like Hilton about $200 and up. feel free to message me with more questions or clarifications if you need to!! I love to help out when I can

Tickets for Alcatraz usually sell out at least a week in advance in the summer. The ONLY company that gets you to Alcatraz is Alcatraz Cruises. http://www.alcatrazcruises.com over 9 years ago

When I went in late 2007, you had to book tours through the National Park Service - website: http://www.nps.gov/alca/index.htm . That may have changed, and Alcatraz Cruises may be the general ferry service operator for the NPS as well as offer tours to the public direct. Have a look around their website, but I do recommend booking early. I ended up not being able to go to Alcatraz but because I cancelled in time was able to get a refund. You can likely get tickets through tour companies, but this is another option and may be cheaper. over 9 years ago
