    Australia is generally a very safe destination. The current floods are affecting country areas so if you are planning on visiting the bigger cities (as most tourists would) it is very unlikely that your trip will be in any way affected.. over 9 years ago

    There's a lot in the media about the floods, but we're not all standing on roof tops waiting for rescue. As Kaisa said, the floods are affecting many country towns outside the main tourist destinations and major cities. (Sydney just had a beautiful sun-drenched weekend perfect for the beach).
    I've put together a map showing the areas worst affected (as of a couple of days ago).
    It's a terrible thing for those people whose homes and businesses are affected, and our best wishes go out to them, but only a tiny proportion of the country is affected.
