Planning a road trip in the states, roughly between May and September, and looking for some cool festivals/events to plan around.

Could be music or food or cultural events, or anything in between! What do you suggest and why?

Cultural Events, near and dear to my childhood

Bandera, Texas - Cowboy Capital of the world

Events happen every 1st Saturday of each month.
Their calendar is updated till July 2018

Direct quote from their site "Expect to see and interact with old west cowboy life style"

Gunslinger & gunfight re-enactments, rodeo, farmers market, horseback riding. Roping lessons, BBQ diner, then Square dance the night away.

Or cut your day short and drive out through Quiet Mountain scenery away from the wild wild west.

Zozobra is kind of the original Burning Man that is held in Santa Fe, New Mexico every year. A fun, unique cultural event that used to scare the S*@% out of me as a kid.

Bumbershoot is a great 3 day music and comedy festival held directly under the Space Needle in Seattle. The lineup ranges from small indie acts to some pretty big names.

And, I am a sucker for good old fashioned Fairs... the California State Fair in Sacramento is always a good time with lots of entertainment and fried food on a stick. about 3 years ago
