I'm heading to Hawaii Island Hawaii and would love advice on the best way to view the lava flowing into the sea or what is the best tour to the volcano.
I went to the Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park three years ago. We stayed in Hilo about 40mins drive away from the National Park and hired a car to tour the park on our own. You can see lava entering the water at The "firehose flow" at Kīlauea Volcano's Kamokuna ocean entry. There’s a public viewing area that you can hike to from the car park.
To see the best contrast between the lava and the surrounding rocks and water I advise you to go there around twilight.
Volcanic activity can change over time and therefore viewing locations may change as well. Speak to the staff/rangers at the Visitors Centre upon arrival as they’ll be able to tell you where you’re able to view the most activity and advise you of safe vantage points.
Check out the Hawaiian Volcanoes National Park for updates: https://www.nps.gov/havo/index.htm
Don’t forget to see the Kīlauea Volcano's Halemaʻumaʻu Crater for an amazing view of the eruptions on the volcano’s summit!

Agree with what the previous poster said. You might want to try a tour with Lava Ocean Tours.
I'd recommend checking out this article for things to do on the Big Island! http://www.americantravelblogger.com/suggested-itinerary-visiting-the-big-island/ almost 2 years ago
