Taking a Canada/New England Cruise in 2 wks. One of the port stops is Portland, the cruise line has excursions but I'd really rather go off on my own.

I'm open as far as activities...I'd like to see the city, maybe find a good restaurant for lunch but I only have about 6 hours so I want to make the most of my time.

You can take the mailboat and see all the different islands while they deliver the mail. Pack a lunch. The one island you can get off the boat for 10-15 minutes or you can stay and explore the island, then catch the next mailboat back in the afternoon. There is a little general store there. You can also bring bikes on the boat if you would like to explore the island that way. We stay in the Wells/Ogunquit area and this summer will be our 5th year. There are endless things to do and see. We like to enjoy the beach on nice days. If you like the board walk and that kind of stuff try Old Orchard Beach. If you don't like all that stuff, there are just beaches. We usually only get to spend a week up there and we never feel it's long enough. almost 9 years ago
