Ashly - How old are you? What are your interests? The answer to these questions would be helpful. With a name "Ashly", I can only imagine that you're relatively young. You might like Pier 39, Embarcadero and Fisherman's Wharf which are all in the same area of SF. If you're old enough to drink, go to the Buena Vista (BV)for an Irish coffee or a gin fizz. You will pass Cannery Row. It's a fun area with vendors along the streets selling wares and on a good day, many SF folks will be out enjoying it with you. You can catch the cable car back to Market St. outside the BV. You can spend a day at the Golden Gate Park and the Arboretum and end up at the Cliff House with a view of the Pacific Ocean. Polk Street is a popular hangout destination too. It's an easy city to walk around or get public transportation so hop on a bus, cable car, street car or subway and get off and see what the area has to offer. For magnificent views of the city, go to Twin Peaks. Chinatown is always fun too. I'm in London now and writing this makes me miss San Francisco. It IS an incredible, fun, beautiful city! I lived there for three years. over 7 years ago

Hi Ashly. Jann has some great suggestions. Also, be sure to search this forum for questions along this vein already asked as there are lots of good answers in there too.

i would add that the Museum of Modern Art is fabulous. I think the first Tuesday of the month it is free, and they also have Thursdays when they open late at night so that's always a good evening fun too. Museums in Golden gate park have similar social nights and free days too, so check that out.

Other cool neighborhoods: Hayes valley by the Civic Center (15 min walk from the Civic Center Bart train station.) definitely walk through Little Italy and up to Coit Tower for some nice views.

Ride a bike across the GG Bridge and then lop over to either Sausalito or go further to Tiburon-take the ferry back, great day out. over 7 years ago

I would definitely go to the Mission district, real, gritty, cool vintage shops, great food, plenty of character. over 7 years ago

Definitely go to South San Francisco. It's pretty different from the north. Also go to Noe Valley. There are tons of cool shops there and fun restaurants. over 7 years ago

Dolores park & the Mission are good places to start. As the first person mentions: it SO depends on your interests. My hangout would be the Asian Art Museum on the first Sunday each month, when the entrance fee is waved and you can go for free and make a day of it. Wandering among an amazing collection. There is a cafe there, too. (and too many homeless outside) almost 6 years ago
