On my way from San Diego to Los Angeles this july I would like to make a stop for a few hours in either Laguna beach or Newport beach (or maybe both if this is possible?). Which one do you recommend and what should I see and do there?

Go just south of Laguna to crystal cove state park, very nice almost 8 years ago

Depends on your age and interests. Newport is more popular with younger people. I prefer Laguna Beach...less families. almost 8 years ago

Cruise the Balboa peninsula, catch the ferry to Balboa Island. Stop for a Balboa Bar or frozen banana. Cruise through Corona Del Mar. Stop at The Deck in Laguna for lunch... Cruise the town. Afternoon coffee at the Montage, $8 to valet park with a validation. over 7 years ago

I agree with Susan.. Balboa area is cool. Tho as already stated it depends on what your preferences are.

I used to live near Laguna Beach, and hung out there a lot.

Laguna Beach: Small but nice beach makes a decent stroll. Coffee shops, nice restaurants, good places for a cocktail, galleries, and a little wine tasting room.

Newport Beach: bigger beach, with more activity. Several more typical (rowdy at night) bars.. Better for the younger crowd.. Aka college, or missing it. There are also some pretentious upscale places near by, but don't bother unless pulling up in your Bentley.

At night a cool local bar with great live music in Laguna Beach is the Dirty Bird (forget the new name).

To be fair there are some really cool bars also in Newport, set further back from the beach. Somewhere there is a little hole in the wall place that is excellent for Sunday brunch.. I can sometimes find my way there, but that doesn't help you LOL. about 7 years ago
