See my reply to bctravelguy. Basically, use Metro. Free parking, almost non-existent. Even street parking is limited in terms of number of hours allowed. Evening travel, I prefer taxi. The public transportation is very good, safe and inexpensive. over 5 years ago

There are plenty of parking garages all over the city, just drive around and find one near where you want to be. Street parking is possible but much more difficult to come by. over 5 years ago

If you happen to park in a garage, take note of the hours and days the garage is open. It is not uncommon to have a garage close on a Friday afternoon until Monday. May seem irrelevant until you find out the car is parked for the entire weekend. Safe travels. almost 5 years ago

Park in one of the metro garages in MD or VA depending on whst's closet to you. they all charge $4.50 a day which is a steal then take the metro into DC to see the monuments. Map of the system is here www.wmata.com. the stations with parking have a car next to them. almost 5 years ago
