    I wouldn't try to park in DC, if you're going to do the tourist things. You could park at a Metro station in the suburbs and take Metro into town. Get off at Smithsonian station. You could buy a ticket for the hop on/hop off trolley that goes around to all the sights. You can ride it all day, get off where you want, and get back on any time you want. I think they stop at most major tourist attractions every 30 minutes or so. They even go across the river to Arlington National Cemetery. If you park in a garage downtown, it will be fairly expensive, and you'll have to deal with traffic. over 5 years ago

    Leave the car at the hotel. Use the Metro. Very safe. Super easy to use and stops at many key attractions. Parking is very difficult, esp after 9/11. Taxis are another alternative. I use for evening travel, like Kennedy Center. over 5 years ago
