Next Summer my friend and I (both 23) will spend about 3 weeks in California and we will drive from San Francisco to Los Angeles. Which other cities do we need to visit? And how many days should we spend in all the cities? Does anyone know good hotels/motels/B&B which are not to expensive. This will be our first time in California. Thank you very much!
3 distinct choices; 1- coastal route, route 101 and route 1, scenic pacific views, cities of Monterrey, Carmel are worth a visits, Hearst castle in San simeon is a must-see, Cambrian is quaint, good b& 's, then a stop in Santa Barbara. 2- inland rte 99, with stops in Yosemite and sequoia national parks. 3- fastest route, rte5 straight through from SF to LA in 1 day. over 7 years ago
Napa Valley is just north of San Francisco. You'll kick yourself if you don't spend at least a day or two there before heading down the coast to Los Angeles. Also, I agree with the other post, take hwy 1 along the coast. Do not, under any circumstances take the stupid, no activity, flat, boring hwy 5 down to L.A. Locals use it because it's faster, but you guys have 3 weeks! Dilly-dally all the way! over 7 years ago
