I'm going to visit Philly next month and I'm really excited about it. When I travel, I usually like to walk around and get to know the place that way. I'll be staying in an hotel close to the tourist area (Market St.). If I arrive at the hotel around 9:00pm, is it very insecure? Do you have any advise?

I grew up in Philadelphia and just got back from a stay downtown near Market St.. You should have no problems, though the usual warnings apply. Plenty of people walking around till dark. See Rittenhouse Square, for example. Try Parc restaurant on the Square. about 6 years ago

Are you staying at the Loews Hotel on Market Street? Philadelphia is a very walkable city and there are enough people out at that time that you should feel safe. As the person above advised -- Philly is a city unlike any other and you should use precaution (know where you are going, don't talk on your cell if you are lost, etc.) If you need any other specific advise on what to see, do or eat, I'm happy to provide input. about 6 years ago

Like any other city, tourist areas are relatively safe. There are usually a bunch of people walking around and a million different tourist attractions - as long as you are in the right place. Steer clear of the more worn-down looking neighborhoods, stay with the crowd and you will be safe! about 6 years ago
