Chicago River architectural tours are top notch. Wendella, I believe, is one of the operators. Also try a lakeshore tour via Segway. Starts at the north end of Millenium Park. Enjoy! over 5 years ago

Yep the architecture tour on the river is a great take. There is also a gangster tour that points out locations of dastardly deeds of Al Capone and other notorious Chicago gangsters as well as providing some historic background of the city itself. A little campy but overall fun and interesting. over 5 years ago

There are many architecture tours, but my favorite ones are run by the non-profit Chicago Architecture Foundation (http://www.architecture.org/tours). Their boat tours are the best, but only run April to November (get tickets online, they sell out in season). CAF walking, bus/trolley, bike, and metro (L) tours are excellent too--most are volunteer-run, so it's a great way to learn about the city from a local who is both knowledgeable about it and loves it.
