The best place to stay is the Crockett Hotel. It is right next to the Alamo and across the street from the mall and the start of the riverwalk. From this hotel you can walk down to the best spots on the riverwalk, Dick's is a bad ass place to eat so go there. From the mall the riverwalk boat ride is also right there. over 8 years ago

San Antonio is great and you can definitely spend a day or two exploring downtown. I'd suggest heading to the Market and eating at MiTerras, which is on the other side of downtown (but within walking distance of the Alamo). There is a ton of shopping at the Rivercenter Mall, The Quarry, NorthStar Mall, and La Cantera. If you are looking for outlets, your best bet is going to be the Prime and Tanger outlet malls in San Marcos (about a 45 minute drive from downtown San Antonio). over 8 years ago

I would stay in a historic hotel like the Crockett, St. James or Menger hotels. Teddy Roosevelt recruited his Rough Riders in the Menger Hotel bar! Of course the Alamo is a nice thing to do down there, as well as La Villita and the Market, and the Institute of Texas Culture. The mall down on the river walk isn't the greatest, I would head up to the Shops at La Cantera and The Rim, where there are doscount shops like Nordstrom Rack and Off Saks. For the outlets, they are only about a 30-45 minute drive from San Antonio and are well worth it. over 8 years ago
