With hotel rates being a bit pricey, my daughter and I have started looking at B&B's. Does anyone have any specific areas we should look at that are close to public transportation?

Don't overlook Cambridge side of the area. Very easy access on the T (just a few stops from Porter Sq and Harvard Sq), and even the walk down Mass ave to Boston affords a great way to see the city.
Back bay is lovely as are Beacon Hill and Tremont street in South End. Check out Bedandbreakfast.com and airbandb and Tripping.com almost 6 years ago
