I make yearly trips to California, and I've been scouring the state for the best southern style barbecue around, slow cooked pork ribs etc. The best I've found so far is Big Mama's Soul Food in Palm Springs. Are there any other great barbecue eateries around? Happy to travel anywhere in California. Thanks!

Head to "Oaktown" aka Oakland, CA: http://www.yelp.com/biz/everett-and-jones-barbeque-oakland-4

    Serious BBQ in that city.

Across the Bay in San Francisco, Brother-in-Law's on Divisadero: http://www.yelp.com/biz/brother-in-laws-bar-b-que-san-francisco

(This place also goes by the name "Lilly's" from time to time -- they just put duct tape over the B-I-L's sign and write "Lilly's" on it. Two tables inside, mostly take away. You can get it to go and walk a few blocks and eat at nearby Alamo Square Park). almost 12 years ago

I use Where's URL (www.wheresurl.com) to find small restaurants across the U.S. Select Food/Drink, and then BBQ, then move the map around (and zoom in & out) to find out what's around. Each website link for each restaurant shown, so you can decide if they have the right kind of BBQ for your taste. almost 11 years ago

Berkeley: T-Rex on Gilman & 10th. Organic meats, great space, good bar,
Korean BBQ in Temescal neighborhood: Koryo. telegraph avenue. Lots of good kimchi side dishes, locals and Koreans go there. In a hood that also has good bars and other rstaurants
Never been but hear Uncle Willys on 14th in downtown Oaktown is good. almost 11 years ago
