What is a good neighborhood to live in Seattle where I can easily take the bus to Bellevue where I will be working?

I will be moving to Seattle this summer and will like suggestions on a nice area with easy access to shopping, restaurants, etc. I want to live near downtown, so Bellevue and places like it are not really in my list. I would like to enjoy the city without too much hassle to get to/from work using public transport. Thanks!

Try Madison Park and Laurelhurst, too. They're a bit farther from downtown than Capitol Hill and The U-district, but they're on the Seattle side of the lake and are very nice. about 6 years ago
