California is HUGE. Yes, there are gang problems in some places and not in others. It all depends on where you're going. Now, if you stick to tourist places, you'll be fine. If you venture into bad neighborhoods looking for drugs or weapons, then you might end up in trouble. over 6 years ago

Since you seem to sell in insurance, as a travel professional I'd recommend you sell/buy insurance to anyone traveling anywhere. But on the practical side to your question, Kyle is right: yes they can be a problem if you go to the areas they control, if you belong to a gang yourself, if you're stupid in your travels. Otherwise, 35,000,000 live here quire safely and happily. And no, not just in the tourist areas. In all the towns, even Los Angeles and Richmond and Modesto. over 6 years ago

No problem, just don't hang around Compton, some areas around Long Beach and some parts of Oakland. Unless you're in a gang you won't have a problem. over 6 years ago

Born and raised in southern California and never had issues with gangs, especially in areas where tourist visit. I'm constantly passing through LA, orange county, and San Diego. I can't remember the last time I actually seen a threatening gang member type person. over 6 years ago
