I am planning a roadtrip/surf trip down the coast of the state of California and I would like to know if there are any little towns or natural wonders, which are unbeknown to the average tourist?

The entire coast or between SF & LA? Assuming the latter, definitely check out Pescadero off if HIghway 1 past Half Moon Bay. Check out Aptos, though of course don't miss Santa Cruz. Seacliff in Aptos has an understated resort on the bluff, but the beach below is gorgeous and empty! The farmers market in Santa Cruz is fab. Further south, there's Salinas, Steinbeck country, and historic agriculture town. Pacific Grove is also lovely.
If you can be more specific about your route, I can share more spots in the northern end of Caliornia. almost 9 years ago

Must Sees: Yosemite National Park. Try to stay there for at least a full day. San Francisco. Most of the major attractions are along the bay like the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf, the Presidio, etc. almost 9 years ago

Big Sur (south of san fran) is beautiful spot to camp a couple nights along the way! Ocean and cliffs on one side and redwood mountains on the other. almost 9 years ago
