My friend and I are looking to go away for a week in March. We are open to Central or South America. Any suggestions?
We enjoy the outdoors and adventure. Don't want to spend more then $1500 including the flight
Where to begin?! First, from a cost perspective, not sure what airport you will be costing your flight from, but you can see some cool options through the Explore tab on Kayak (click the "More..." tab on the left hand rail and then click Explore). You can see sample flight costs based on the airport you enter.
As for destinations, Mexico, despite all the bad press, is still a great place to consider. Oaxaca city, in Oaxaca state, is awesome and the beaches are wonderful-would make for a good 7 day trip. Baja, oldie but goodie, but can be hard to get around without a car. I just got back from a week in Chiapas, San Cristobal de las casas, which can combine well with a Mexico city stint stopping in a few town along the way.
Further down, Nicaragua is awesome! Volcanoes, beaches, jungle, remote villages, surf culture, colonial historical towns, take your pick. AND it is extremely cheap once you get there too.
I like Guatemala too-great place to do a Guate City, Antigua, Panajachel loop, but it's a well worn backpacker route, and you may not get the same bang for your buck as you would Nicaragua. about 6 years ago
