I'm going to be in London for a day and a half this coming December, are there any recommended places of interest around the London Eye? I've got my eye on the NPG and the tour is covering Trafalgar Square, Buckingham Palace, and Downing Street and a few others. Any other places that can be visited in such a short span of time? I'm just worried that shops would be closed around Christmas.

Also, please recommend a good fish and chips place.

Much appreciated!

Right by the London eye is the south bank with a few restaurants to choose from. Alternatively, walk across the footbridge, from south bank to embankment and then walk up to the strand, cross over and you are at covent garden, 10-15min walk from the London eye. about 9 years ago

Don't worry about the shops being closed - it's Christmas, the busiest period in the year, although the shops on Oxford Street open later on Sundays, but then they close later too. Depends what shops you want, small boutiques are around Covent Garden and just north towards Centre Point in the back lanes and then there are places like Knightsbridge for Harrods, Harvey Nicols etc, but your best bet is Oxford Street, Regent Street and if in the money, Bond Street. about 9 years ago

Sorry meant to say, Fish n Chips in Central London are all too touristy and I'd give them a miss, but sure you'll fins someone selling then, the pubs around Trafalgar Square and on Whitehall generally. about 9 years ago
