I have a meeting till 5pm in Covent Garden but my flight back is not till 6am the next day from Stansted. I am trying to avoid paying for a hotel since I have to be at the airport by 4am. Any suggestions?
Well the airport lounges open at 4am barr the Servisair one. So you've two lounges to choose from, one if you're flying Ryanair, one if you're not. It will be situated near your Gate so you should get almost an hour and a half there before boarding. The lounge is only about £15 & for that you get food (don't know their breakfast choice), a chance to stretch out in what is probably going to be a quite empty lounge, free internet access and great views of the runway.I got drinks on tap, well I just had 2 fruit juices but it was an evening flight so I had the afternoon menu which was limited however the pizza was gorgeous & I got to choose from a small dessert trolley. I think for breakfast there is a buffet. It's worth the money for what you get, you'd pay as much out in the public area of the terminal.
Covent Garden has great restaurants etc so spend some time there, maybe take in a film at Piccadilly Circus or somewhere. You dont want to feel like an aimless homeless person wandering the streets, no disrespect to the homeless. In other words keep yourself occupied with a sense of purpose otherwise it's going to turn into a horrible experience. It's not an easy way to travel but you can turn it into a nice, productive experience as possible.
Get a late train to Stansted and rest and maybe read a book, I'm not sure are there any all night cafes open. Check in at 3am, that'lll give you plenty of time to make it to the lounge when it opens at 4am & get your moneys worths. Even though the minimum you pay for is 3 hours, it does't really matter & say if your flight was delayed. they'd let you make up the time on the other side. Alternatively check in at 3am & keep yourself occupied past security. You could always bring a travel pillow & blanket & fit it into your briefcase. almost 8 years ago
This could be a fun night!
If I were you, I'd have dinner around Covent Garden and then either go to a West End show or grab drinks in SoHo. There are tons of great restaurants and pubs in the area.
If you'd like to meet some local people who will show you around, try Tripping (www.tripping.com)
Just make sure to catch the tube before it closes or you may not make it to Stansted (via Tottenham Rail Station). Check this site for transportation options: http://www.tfl.gov.uk/
Good luck! almost 8 years ago
