Spend some time in Bath then go up via the Cotswolts to Stratford on Avon. In summer I think there's a shuttle between the two but off season you might have to self drive and it would be nice to stay in one or 2 villages enroute or you can take tours from London which I douby would do the destinations together.

North of Manchester you have the beautiful lake district. In southwest England you have Cornwall, Devon & Somerset which are all very popular with tourist and in the S.E you have pretty villages like Rye, the White Cliffs of Dover and some lovely castle with a moat, I've forgotten the name.

Day trips from London include Windsor with its palace, the university town of Oxford. Travelling west along the Thames you have the palace of Hampton Court with its famous maze, travelling east you have Greenwich with its Observatory & maritime theme and further east you have the Thames Barrier. about 7 years ago

Depends on your tastes, but there are lovely stately homes, Museums and architecture. The mountains in Wales are beautiful! Villages in Yorkshire are ripe with tradition, good food and drink. The bigger cities have great places to eat, drink and socialise. Derbyshire, Hathersage, is a beautiful town, with wonderful walks and climbing, canoeing, waterfalls, hangliding, etc almost 7 years ago

I agree with the above post loads of great things to do but depends on your taste. Look at Leeds castle (in Kent) its more than just a castle it has lots of outdoor activities too great for kids. If your driving around the uk also check out the RoadsideUK iPhone app http://itunes.apple.com/gb/app/roadsideuk/id476558176?mt=8&uo=2 which has many free roadside attractions thought the uk over 6 years ago
