Wanting to know if I could pick up work in a bar or restaurant or admin role or any other suggestions as an Australian backpacker. Is it easy to find jobs over there? Would I earn enough to live off? ie. basic rent and money for short trips to Europe etc

It depends upon the type of job you are looking for. If you are experienced in serving/bartending VERY easy. I applied for a job at the temp agency known as Berkeley Scott in Hammersmith and I had a job that evening. Make sure you have a valid visa and your passport with you. However, if you are not looking for temp work, it can take up to a month for your choice of job to employ you, so be prepared for some downtime until you get that job. I hope that this is helpful :) over 6 years ago

And yes, you can make enough money to live off of - and if you serve, remember that you usually get free meals. Brits do not tend to tip so be prepared. You can rent out rooms which include cable/internet/share house for 100pounds/week or less. Make sure when booking your holidays for travel to do so in advance - you will not only get the best hotel rates (travelodge sometimes offers rates for as low as 19 pounds/night in the UK and 9 pounds a night in Spain) but the best flight prices too.... Just keep away from the tourist pubs which charge more and ask the locals for the best local... you'll save quite a few bob if you do :) over 6 years ago

Well, if you having a hard time looking. An agency might help you as long as you have the necessary working permits it might be easy. hays.co.uk or loveandtate.co.uk ... Here's a full list I found here at movetolondon.com.au/how-to-get-a-job-in-london almost 5 years ago

I agree with Adrianne. It's not easy at all to find a permanent job.. I was unemployed for almost 3 months and I couldn't even get an interview. However when I changed plans and decided to look also for a casual job things went better. You can either check for a pub job, or a front of house assistant job, or leaflet distributor job. There some descent options in case you want to have a temporary job while you're looking for something more permanent. I saw this article http://www.brokeinlondon.com/easy-to-get-jobs-in-london/ lately on broke in london about jobs that you can find easily. This is a really useful website by the way if you are looking for a job or a place to stay cause it lists and reviews job boards and accommodation websites.

However from my experience the best website to find a job fast and easy is either indeed.com or gumtree.com. They have thousands of ads. To be totally honest, I haven't tried an agency so far so I don't have a clear view about this. However I have friends who have turned to agencies to find a job and some were happy but others not at all. If I remember correctly Reed is one of the best ones. about 4 years ago
