Where is a reasonable and convenient place to stay in London?

Slightly broad question:
Reasonable - what would you consider to be reasonable? For Central London you will be spending around 100 pounds a night unless you do a YHA hostel type hotel.
Convenient - for where? Are you only visiting the main attractions in London such as Houses of Parliament, Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Tower of London etc or will you want to be going further out, say to Wembley, Chiswick or out to East London?
Would you be prepared to travel into London so you can get cheaper accommodation or is location more the issue and you would compromise on that and cost for being central? almost 10 years ago -
The cheapest, most convenient places of what I would consider reasonable quality tend to be the chains that cluster around the train stations.
Premier Inn or Travelodge are perfectly comfortable, will have internet access and be close to restaurants/underground stations for under £70/night. If you're planning to take a day trip from London consider being close to the relevant station, i.e. London Bridge for Dover, Paddington for Bristol etc
If your budget is somewhat higher, stay close to Covent Garden or Piccadilly to be within walking distance of most sights/restaurants/shows.
If it's lower, then you'll be in Youth Hostels, although there is a decent Pod hotel called the http://www.piccadillyhotel.net/

If your willing to stay 4-5 miles out of the centre and are happy to catch the tube/bus in then you can halve that £100 quote. South London has lots of small hotels. Peckham, New Cross etc, whilst not as nice as Mayfair will see you well for less than £50. I see a new one has opened in Old Kent Rd.
Happy to give more advice if you can narrow down what it is you are after and where you would like to stay.

Consider staying at the Pissarro House. You must book early-ish and only for weekly increments (to get something of a deal), but it's reasonable and located near Crystal Palace. Also, there's a taxi place near there called Crystal Cars. Hope that helps. over 9 years ago
