What are some good areas in London with bars (and clubs), friendly people, and a good vibe? What are the best times to head out?

Decide between East and West. East is arguably somewhat trendier with the in-crowd, while West End attracts the crowds. It depends on your preferences. For east, check out the areas around Shoreditch and Old Street. For West End, start in some cocktail bar in Covent Garden and finish in a club around Leicester Square. If you have the money for it, you could spend a small fortune at some places in Mayfair. almost 12 years ago

I really enjoyed all the area around Covent Garden and Leicester Square, especially during summer. It's nice to spend the evening just walking around the streets and get in a pub it looks cool to you from the outside. almost 12 years ago

Agree with most of the points above, but also check out Clapham High Street / Clapham Junction. Lots of variety in Bars / Pubs & Clubs like The Whitehouse. Not as over crowded as central and not as weird as Shoreditch! I'd presonally avoid Leicester Square but thats because I'm not a tourist into cheesey R&B. Soho also has masses of quality places to check out which is central and easy to get around. almost 12 years ago

You might also want to check out Brixton SW london. It has very trendy bars and clubs plus. You will hear lots of stories about Brixton but its reputation is more in the imagination than the reality. over 11 years ago

Hello - I live in London and agree with the above aside from West End. West End is full of cheesy/expensive clubs with crowds of mainly foreign men inside them. East End London is full of alternative bars/clubs although be prepared for a somewhat pretentious crowd of hipsters and indie kids (it's not too bad). Brixton has a great night life scene, try Jamm Bar, Windmill, Plan B and Hootananny which has brilliant live ska/reggae and an all night BBQ outside. Camden also has a great alternative night scene, as mentioned above Koko is a good one and often has some really good artists. There's also the famous Jazz Cafe and Barfly which is good for undiscovered bands.

If you want a good night out in London without having to pay Soho or Covent Garden prices try Islington. There are plenty of bars and a few nightclubs and its not too expensive. about 9 years ago
