Ok so I am going to do my big O.E. with my partner and we are going to move from New Zealand to England in march next year for 2 years.

We are in our mid 20s and plan to travel around Europe and the UK but want a good city to base ourselves for work and are not to keen on london, but will move there if that works out to be the best option.

Please help any advice would be great :)

It really depends on buget, where you will work, what jobs you are looking for, how far you are prepared to commute etc.

You dont have to live in Central London, but should your choice of profession dictate London as a work place, then you could live on a mainline train route such as Cambridge, Brighton etc but you would have to factor in the commute time and price.

I loved living in Cambridge, I would love to live in Edinburgh, I think Dublin would be a great city but expensive.

If you want to travel to Europe, then you may wish to consider Kent, Essex, Suffolk or Norfolk. Kent would give you access to ferries, major airport at Gatwick, smaller airport at London City, Eurotunnel, Eurotrain as well as a good bus and road network.

Sorry I cant help further, but I think it depends on what your specifics are.

Other things to consider - do you want to have a good Kiwi base around you, would you prefer rural and quiet, or city and nightlife? If you are more rural but have to commute to work how will you do that if the bus network isnt great?
