We really enjoyed the Big red bus tours. You can hop on and off at any points throughout the day and explore places and then hope on the next one that comes around. We managed to hop off plenty of times fitting in a canal cruise and the London Eye. It is a good way to get around London without costing a fortune.

We also manged to get lost in the little streets of London which was also a highlight because you can find plenty of wonderful coffee shops tucked away which have the best sweets.

In London get an "oyster card" for the tube and go exploring yourself! The tube is really fast and easy to use, and you can get to most landmarks of London from a short walk from a tube stop. almost 12 years ago

The oyster card works for buses too - you see much more on a bus and meet more locals. This is just for London - theres more to the UK than London.
For me, having lived in the UK many years (originally from Malaysia), I love the Lake district and the Cotswolds (google them). Get a train pass (never did it from abroad and sometimes you can combine it with your flight package) and just ride the tracks. Scotland is magnificent for scenery - I also love the oldie seaside villages in Kent and Sussex(like Whitstable and Rye). Yorkshire has lovely seaside too like Scarborough and York has a lovely university studenty feel (if you don't want to go to Oxford and Cambridge).
You might rent a car for out of metropolitan destinations but roads here are not like in Texas (where I lived for 3 years, in Austin).
In London, go to the markets, Portobello, Camden, Borough for the local flavours.
Hope this helps. almost 12 years ago

Get up early and head to London Bridge to watch the hordes of city workers troop across it. Not a tourist in sight, just thousands of suited drones! almost 12 years ago
