Traveling around the uk

almost 5 years ago about United Kingdom

Hi, im an 18 year old girl who will be traveling around the uk for 1.5 months in June/July before heading off to the other parts of Europe. Just wondering if anyone had any suggestions of an itinerary or route to take? Also what's the best way of getting around cheaply? I don't want to go on a set tour with a company, I would love some sort of hop on hop off bus? any suggestions?
I already have two festivals that I want to go to (trad Irish in Ireland, and folk fest in Scotland) but other than that open to almost anything :)
Thanks!

There's megabus - http://uk.megabus.com/. I'd make an itinerary before you start. Think about where you want to go and see. Book your train and bus tickets as soon as poss for the best prices. Use hotels.com for hostels or hotels. They have a book 10 nights get one free using their rewards. You could join the youth hostel ass - http://www.yha.org.uk/ also. Mostly, keep safe and have fun. almost 5 years ago

Advance booking on the bus and train will save you a lot of money, and also if you are student, you should be able to get even better prices.

YHA or camping are cheap options. almost 5 years ago

Hi I would suggest getting Rick Steves books for europe and the Uk as well as Ireland he writes in a easy friendly way and has lots ot tips that are helpful. My friend and I used his europe though the backdoor was very good. almost 5 years ago

I'm not sure if they're available to non-UK citizens, but you could try buying a young person's railcard for the trains - costs a little, but gives you 1/3 off all train tickets - if you're doing that much travelling in the UK by train then it will pay for itself many times over. almost 5 years ago
