I guess 'cheap' depends on where you normally live and what prices you normally pay. I found that the supermarkets were good - and much cheaper than here in Australia. Often, they have smaller outlets at Tube stations, things like Tesco Metro, and picking up food here after returning from big day out in London was affordable, fairly cheap and very convenient. It did help that I was staying at a flat and had access to a kitchen. Most hostels have kitchens too. almost 8 years ago

It's London, a Capitol city. Nothing's cheap except food in supermarkets. As the last person said, either stay in a hostel where you have an available kitchen or a self catered apartment. Sorry. almost 8 years ago

Check out the Worker Cafe at 172 Upper Street, just south of the Highbury/Islington tube station. I had classic British fare there (beef & onion pie, peas, mash, and a soda) for less than £6. over 7 years ago
