Hi, I will be travelling to the UK this month from Canada and will arrive at Gatwick airport.

Where exactly can I purchase a prepaid sim card that would give me some minutes, outgoing international texts and free incoming calls? Would Lyca or Lebara be available at Gatwick? How much do they cost and what do they provide?

Also what form of ID would I need to purchase the sim card

There are 6 mobile phone providers in the UK, 02, Orange, 3, Virgin Mobile, T-mobile and Vodaphone, each offering a variety of plans and pricing structures.
There are vending machines in all arrivals halls at Heathrow (as well as newsagents, W.H. Smith in terminals 1, 4 and 5 arrivals), you can even buy a pre-paid SIM cards in Tesco supermarkets. You’ll need to top-up with extra credit to make calls to Canada but they’re pretty cheap.
have your passport ready (just in case) and expect to pay about 20 pounds to get a usable voice/text/data package. almost 8 years ago
