Dubai is pretty amazing - ride in marked cabs only ("hotel" cabs charge twice as much or more), book your tickets for the Burj Khalifa (world's tallest building) online before you go - they sell out quick! Go to a shisha bar (hooka - if you don't know what flavor, try double apple). If you have the cash, stay at the Jumeirah Beach hotel - or if you REALLY want to live it up, try the Burj al Arab. This is definitely one place where it's worth it to pay and live it up like a king - the extravagance beyond belief! It's also worth checking out the Dubai mall (largest in the world, and it's attached to the Burj Khalifa) or the Mall of the Emirates (indoor ski hill), but if you're short on time, I'd say the Dubai mall. What else... your keycard turns your lights on and off in the hotel room (most likely); look for the card "holder" next to the front door, put the card in, and the lights come on. It's safe - I've never felt as safe in an American city, and, unlike some other nearby countries, people actually drive pretty reasonably. Most of the "everyday" folks are other-country-nationals/expats - mostly from India/Pakistan/Philippines - and almost everyone will speak English well. Try the Buddha bar (not sure what the real name is, but the cab driver's will know) - it's pricey, but very nice! Hope this helps! over 6 years agoAnswered by Luke via WorldNomads.com
