I am going to Abu Dhabi for a couple of days next week for work. What can I do after work to have fun and explore? Is it possible to visit Dubai and return in one night?
Depending where you are in Abu Dhabi and where you want to go in Dubai, its a journey of around an hour or so, depending on traffic etc. The taxi would be around 200AED one way.
For things to do in Abu Dhabi - there are shopping malls, cinemas, restaurants, bars etc. All the usual things for a city. You could stroll along the corniche or head to one of the cafes on the beach (junction of 30th and corniche) and watch the sunset.
For more adrenalin filled things, then there is go-karting at Yas, or go-karting, paintball, water skiing, laser quest etc at Al Forsan in Khalifa which are all fab.
Check out Time Out Abu Dhabi for listings of exactly what is on when you are here. Different bars offer free drinks for ladies, some of the bars are open late, run quizzes etc. over 7 years ago
Things to do in Abu Dhabi in the evening? Used to be that it was a pretty short list - crashing out in restaurants, bars, lounges and shopping centers .. or for the more active - participating in some sort of sport (i.e. tennis, football, bowling, .. even ice hockey).
The list is beginning to grow. If you enjoy the arts then I'd recommend checking out Manarat Al Saadiyat http://www.saadiyat.ae/en/cultural/manarat-al-saadiyat1.html or Emirates Palace. Lecture series are also emerging via the various museums and universities. Standouts? NYU campus - check out http://nyuad.nyu.edu/news.events/events.ad.html for details. and the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies http://www.ecssr.ac.ae/ECSSR/appmanager/portal/ecssr?_nfpb=true&_nfls=false&_pageLabel=HomePageECSSR&lang=en .
Another option that is growing in popularity is just a liesurely stroll along the new Corniche. Typically now adorned with exhibitions and special events .. along with the usual assortment of restaurants and family based boardwalk amusements (i.e. bicycle rentals, roller blading, etc.) over 7 years ago
